Alsamixer cannot open mixer

Sep 27, 2011 · I can't launch alsamixer as I get a "cannot open mixer: Connection refused" message, the volume mixer has disappeared, vlc freezes and now won't launch, audacious also won't launch, also using the amixer button keys, has left a heap of amixer +5 master and -5 master, and toggle processes in the task manager, and there are 3 audacious process's running..I run xfce4 on archlinux, and am using systemd if that helps Thanks to Google I found a command that works to open the mixer as I think it goes straight to card 1 (my USB card in this case) alsamixer -c 1 I used this command to see if the root user was part of the audio group (root is not in the audio group) Jun 28, 2014 · Note: If you have installed gnome-alsamixer instead of xfce4-mixer, you need to edit volbar.py sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/volbar.py Find the line 97 and replace xfce4-mixer to gnome-alsamixer: subprocess.Popen("gnome-alsamixer") Now restart your computer and test, if everything is working. When I first open alsamixer using the -c1 parameter the input mixer is at 0 (zero). I understand what you are saying regarding adjusting leves with the OS but I have definitley adjusted the input level in XP using the slider found in the advanced controls of the Audio settings in c0ontrol panel.
